Artful Hotels: Aragosta

Though we’ve lived in Maine for fifteen years now, we’d yet to experience the magic of Deer Isle or the charm of Stonington until last week. We were able to book a dog-friendly cottage at Aragosta at Goose Cove and as soon as we arrived, we knew it would make for a fantastic “Artful Hotels” feature.

Our cottage, Juniper, was not only outfitted with everything we needed during our stay, but it also featured ten original paintings by local Deer Isle artist, Carolyn Walton. Decorating the walls of the cottage only with Carolyn’s work gave it a welcome continuity in its design. Bronze sculptures by artist Jud Hartmann dot the coastal property (see below) and are featured inside the inn’s dining room alongside other local art.

Aragosta was the perfect place from which to explore the many coves and picturesque corners of Deer Isle and Stonington and we loved how much local art was infused throughout the property.

Aragosta’s incredible tasting menu can be experienced in these darling greenhouses overlooking the cove. The greenhouses are from Gothic Arch Greenhouses in Alabama.

Artful Hotels’ is a travel series featuring hotels and inns that place an emphasis on art and design as an integral part of their guest experience. Having the chance to visit different art-filled properties over the years has greatly informed our aesthetic and the way we prefer to travel. These photographs are from our own personal travels.
