Island Light

A collection of paintings celebrating the storied Maine island of Monhegan by artist Ariane Luckey.

"Truly I loved that little world. Monhegan. Small, sea-girt island that it was, a seeming floating speck in the infinitude of sea and sky.”
-
Rockwell Kent

Monhegan.

A small rocky island ten miles off the coast of Maine.

One hour on the fishing boat that serves as the ferry from the mainland. Just enough time to step back in time once you reach the dock.

These paintings are from a trip this summer. Small talismans brought back, brief impressions, as if they were pieces of driftwood, polished rocks, gifts from the sea, carried home in sandy pockets.

The windows rattle in the wind, the light seeps through the simple white curtains. A small gabled room looking out over the sea. A step back in time, transported to a summerhouse bedroom on an island.
